After the critical and commercial success of The Witch, Robert Eggers announced that his next project would be a remake of Nosferatu, which he previously adapted as a play. It was set to star his The Witch lead Anya Taylor-Joy and was described as a “visceral project that brings the horrific vampire of Eastern European folklore back to the screen”. It has also been speculated that Robert Pattinson was offered a role in the project after Eggers said Pattinson turned down a role in one of his unmade projects because it wasn’t “challenging enough”.
