The Best Movies Never Made
In the early 90s, James Cameron was set to produce an adaptation of X-Men with Kathryn Bigelow directing. Bob Hoskins and Angela Bassett were set to star as Wolverine and Storm respectively, with Jean Grey also set to make an appearance in the movie. While Bigelow started coming up with a treatment for the movie, Cameron found himself more interested in developing a movie revolving around another Marvel character, Spider-Man, another project that was also eventually cancelled.
James Cameron was hired by Carolco Pictures to produce, write and direct a film adaptation of Spider-Man. Leonardo DiCaprio was to star as Peter Parker, while Arnold Scwarzenegger was being considered for the role of Dr. Octopus. While many elements of the script were rehashed for Sam Raimi’s movie, Cameron’s version was set to be more explicit, with frequent swearing and a scene depicting Spider-Man and Mary Jane having sex on the Brooklyn Bridge. The project was cancelled after the studio went bankrupt.
