District 9 director Neill Blomkamp was hired to develop a direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens, essentially retconning all the other movies that came after it. It would have brought both Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn back to the franchise, with the script revolving around the consequences of Weyland-Yutani weaponizing the aliens. The project was eventually cancelled when Fox decided to focus on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus movies instead.
