The Best Movies Never Made

Guillermo Del Toro was originally hired to write and direct an adaptation of The Hobbit. His plan for the project included splitting the book into two movies and implementing a more “fairy tale”-oriented style, including more talking animals. His characterization of Bilbo, as someone who was naive and “innocent in the world”, was also very different than what ended up in the final film. Del Toro left the project due to multiple production delays, choosing to focus on other projects instead.
