The Best Movies Never Made
Guillermo Del Toro has had many of his projects canceled or delayed throughout his career. One of the most infamous is his adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, which also involved James Cameron as a producer. Del Toro originally wrote the script in 2006 and pitched it to Warner Bros, who turned it down because Del Toro insisted on making an R-rated film. Del Toro worked on the project for years, writing drafts and coming up with storyboards. Universal eventually picked it up and Tom Cruise was set to star before the project was eventually cancelled, its $150 million budget combined with an R-rating making Universal get cold feet.
